What is All on 4?

In case you’re unsure of what the treatment entails, All on 4 is a permanent solution and alternative to dentures that consists of 4 implants on top and 4 implants on the bottom that are drilled into the anterior maxilla (the thickest part of the jaw) to secure a bridge that connects a complete set of new teeth.

The surgical procedure itself takes just 2 visits totalling approximately 5-8 hours worth of treatment time including the recovery and try in after surgery, with another 1-2 hours worth of planning and consulting on either side.

The treatment is virtually painless, and most patients find that the swelling and soreness is almost completely gone within 2-3 weeks post-treatment.

We find that most individuals seeking the All on 4 treatment have suffered physically and emotionally for quite some time. Rotting teeth can affect your diet, having a significant impact on one’s health. It is within human rights to feel free and comfortable with your smile. Kew Dentistry is a medium to achieve a smile you deserve and a smile that you can certainly achieve.

Cleaning All on 4 Dental Implants

tooth cleaningAll on 4 implant cleaning is essential and must be approached with consistency and conviction.

  • Brush twice a day with a standard toothbrush; if you have any remaining natural teeth, a soft bristle brush and toothpaste containing fluoride is recommended. Avoid using an electric toothbrush as the harsh vibrations could cause pain around the affected area.
  • Be sure to brush all surfaces even if this proves uncomfortable (within reason). There may be signs of bleeding due to inflammation; this is quite common and a necessary function of the body’s natural healing process.
  • Use x-floss to get underneath the bridges at least once a day.
  • It’s crucial to get your bridges professionally cleaned every 6 months.
  • Use a Water Pik to clean the bacteria and plaque build-ups in the gaps of your All on 4 Dental Implants.

The Water Pik

Dental implant cleaning is most effective with a Water Pik. The Water Pik uses a pressurised water jet to get in the gaps of your implants, eliminating plaque and bacteria.

How to Use the Water Pik

Start with the lowest setting – put the end of the Water Pik in your mouth and lean over the sink before you turn it on. Adjust the pressure setting and let the excess water flow out of your mouth and into the sink. Effective All on 4 Dental Implant cleaning calls for accurate rinsing, starting at the back and following the gum line front and back.

A Water Pik is included with the All of 4 treatment at Kew Dentistry. We will also take the time to run you through all of the above details and follow up during our three-month post-treatment consultation.

Diet After All on 4

Your mouth, jaw, and throat will be sore for a few days to two weeks after surgery, although any discomfort or swelling will begin to dissipate during this period. As a result, food might be distasteful or difficult to consume. During this period, you must follow a liquid non-chew diet. Here are some things to consider while you’re on the liquid diet.

Most people find that they are not very hungry after surgery, so you may not want to eat as much as you usually do. Drink plenty of fluids and eat small meals often. Consume various nutritious liquids, such as soups, broths, milk, juice, and soft fruits and vegetables.

Be sure to avoid foods like nuts, sourdough, apples, carrots, chocolate bars, steak and any other foods that require excessive bite force and tearing.

Don’t worry, it won’t be long before you are biting into a big juicy apple. It’s one of the first things our patients do after their liquid diet!

A Bit About the All on 4 Treatment Plan

all on 4 aftercareHere is what your experience would look like if you were to choose Kew Dentistry as your All on 4 treatment provider.

Step 1 – The process begins with an over the phone consultation to discuss your situation and your aspirations regarding oral health.

Step 2 – If you decide to move forwards in your journey to restoring your smile, one of our dentists will conduct a CBCT scan (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) that will identify the depths of your treatment and gauge an accurate cost for the entire procedure and consultations. You will then have an opportunity to see what your smile would look like using 3D imagery and digital smile design technology.

Step 3 – The treatment begins. The dentists will place the implants, and after our technicians have finished crafting your implants in the lab, they will be fitted the same day.

Step 4 – As we mentioned previously, the friendly staff at Kew Dentistry will detail the steps to maintaining the overall quality of your All on 4 Dental Implants, from diet, cleaning practices, to any pain medication needed to accommodate your recovery.
