The traditional orthodontic method of braces may be unsuitable for a number of reasons. Many adults would be embarrassed to wear braces, feeling that wearing such an obvious treatment is unsightly and not worth the discomfort and self consciousness. Or, many candidates have only minor orthodontic issues, meaning that braces are not worth it. Whatever the reason, braces are not for everyone. But, that doesn’t mean that you have to put up with crooked teeth! There are now many brace-free orthodontic solutions on the market, including Invisialgn at Kew Dentistry. Alternatively, many patients see success with lingual braces, that sit behind the teeth and are complete unseen.

Invisalign is the most well known method for achieving straighter teeth while avoiding braces. Your dentist will see you for an initial consultation to determine if Invisalign® is right for you. Then, we’ll develop a treatment plan based on your goals and needs, including 4-6 week check ups and new tray schedule. Impressions of your teeth are taken and sent to the Invisalign® laboratory to make your aligners.

At Kew Dentistry, we use 3D imaging to show you what your teeth look like before, during and after treatment, and to demonstrate the results you can expect.

Once a treatment plan is finalised, we give you custom aligners that are worn for two weeks at a time before switching to the next set. Most patients require 18-36 aligners for a full treatment, over a period of 9-18 months. You’ll wear the aligners every day and night but can take them out to eat, brush, drink, or for a special occasion. We will then see you every 4-6 weeks to monitor your progress and give you the next stage of aligners.

As treatment progresses, your teeth will move into a healthy, even smile.

Alternatively, lingual braces are another great option. Although technically not brace-free, lingual braces attach to the back of your teeth, and are consequently completely out of sight. Unlike invisalign, this treatment works just as effectively as braces for issues such as crowding, overlap, protrusion, overbites, and spaces. It is a relatively new technology, and is a fantastic option for adults and teens who would rather avoid the appearance of regular braces. In comparison to invisalign, lingual braces require much less effort from the patient. While invisalign must be taken out to eat and drink, lingual braces require nothing at all. Additionally, lingual braces may be preferable for teens who can be unreliable with keeping their invisalign in, or losing their aligners.

The cost of each treatment option will vary patient to patient. Generally, lingual braces are more affordable than a full treatment with Invisalign. However invisalign can be used selectively to correct very small issues, in which case it is the preferred option.

The short answer is no – Invisalign and Lingual braces may not be suitable for every patient. Some patients with a deep bite may not be eligible for lingual braces, and more major orthodontic issues are untreatable with Invisalign. We are happy to conduct an initial assessment to determine if either treatment is right for you.Contact us today to book your appointment! Saturday visits are available.
