Dental Crowns in Kew

Improve the appearance of your teeth and strengthen your smile with a dental crown. This cap is made of ceramic and looks natural, covering the tooth. It can support and protect any teeth that have been damaged and restore normal function. Crowns can also be used to support a tooth with a large filling, protect a tooth after root canal treatment or hold a dental bridge in place.

Dental crowns are strong, long-lasting and versatile. There are four main types:

  • All-ceramic
  • Gold
  • Porcelain bonded shell
  • Procera® Zirconia

At Kew Dentistry, we can discuss which is most appropriate when you chat with your dentist at your first visit. We’ll then prepare your tooth to receive the crown and place a temporary one. Your next appointment is scheduled for two weeks later, during which your final crown is custom-made in our laboratory. We’ll then fit the crown, permanently putting it into place.

Dental Crown FAQs

There are a number of situations that require a dental crown. A crown may be used to protect a weak tooth from decay, to cover and support a filling, to restore a broken tooth, to hold a dental bridge in place, to cover discoloured teeth or to cover an implant.

At Kew Dentistry, recommendations may involve avoiding sticky, chewy or hard foods, reducing use of the relevant side of the mouth, and taking particular brushing and flossing precautions. Your dentist will discuss individual recommendations at your appointment.

On the whole, no. However, make sure to maintain good oral hygiene practises, including brushing and flossing.

On average, dental crowns last 5-15 years. This may depend on oral hygiene, grinding or clenching, and other factors.

No it does not. This is why oral hygiene practises such as brushing and flossing are still very important.
